Das rote Sandsteingebäude entstand in Folge der Rathauserweiterung im Jahre 1899.
Das Staatsarchiv bewahrt das Schriftgut des Kantons. Die Räumlichkeiten , mit Lesesaal
und Sammlungen (u.a. reiche Bildersammlung von Alt-Basel), sind gotisch und im Jugendstil
erbaut.
The building out of red sandstone dates from 1829, that is to say, it is contemporary with the
extensions to the city hall. In the state archives, cantonal documents are preserved. The rooms,
including a reading room with some collections (among others a picture collection of the
ancient Basel) are Gothic and built in Art Nouveau.
Le batiment de grès rouge a été bati au file de l'agrandissement de l'hôtel de ville en 1899.
L'archives de l'Etat conserve les ouvrage du canton. Les locaux qui contiennent la salle de
lectutre et les collection (par example une riche collection de peinture de l'encient Bâle)
sont batis dans le stile gotique et du 19 ième siècle.
